The Lone Star Groundwater Conservation District (LSGCD) manages the groundwater in Montgomery County, which is one of the fastest-growing counties in the country. Every residence and business needs water in some capacity and LSGCD manages the amount of groundwater taken from below the surface on an annual basis. LSGCD manages nature’s precious resource while protecting property rights, balancing conservation and development, and using the best available science.
The District is bound by Chapter 36 of the Texas Water Code. One of the many ways the District carries out its mission and the powers and duties provided by Chapter 36 is through the creation of District rules. A major aspect of the District’s rules is its permitting program, which is carried out through well registration and permitting. For more information on how the District’s well registration and permitting program please see our ‘Forms & Documents’ page.
