The Lone Star Groundwater Conservation District (LSGCD) is pleased to host an upcoming workshop about establishing utility-based programs to Evaluate Water Efficiency in the Commercial Sector . The two-day workshop will be held at the Lone Star Convention Center on August 25th & 26th and will train participants to recognize water efficiency opportunities for commercial businesses, industries and institutional facilities (e.g., medical facilities, restaurant and food services, schools, laundries, car washes, landscaping/irrigation, etc.). One of the state's leading experts, Bill Hoffman , will conduct the workshop and, to wrap up the program, participants will observe him as he performs an actual, on-site water efficiency evaluation. The Lone Star Groundwater Conservation District was created in 2001 by the 77th Texas Legislature with a directive to conserve, protect and enhance the groundwater resources of Montgomery County, Texas. A confirmation election was held on November 6, 2001, with a 73.85% favorable ballot.
Groundwater is the water found below the land surface. It flows to the surface naturally in springs or seeps or can be tapped artificially by digging wells. Groundwater is a major source of water for Texas. However, in many parts of the state, more is being used than is being replenished through natural means. The continuation of this practice can result in rising water costs, subsiding of land mass and a decline in the amount and quality of water. The mission of the Lone Star Groundwater Conservation District is to manage and protect the groundwater resources of Montgomery County and to work with others to ensure a sustainable, adequate, high quality and cost effective water supply for current and future needs.
Lone Star Groundwater Conservation District is the first organization in east Texas to implement the “Water IQ: Know Your Water” campaign, which was developed for the Texas Water Development Board.
